File of photographs of Down Hall, Barrow upon Humber

Reference Name MISC DON 1563/2/1/1

Down Hall was originally built by Mr Humbly after his wife expressed a dislike of the smaller white building located behind the Hall which had been their family home. The house is originally said to have had a conservatory on top of the roof from which Mr Beeton watched the progress of his work force. However, the conservatory is no longer present having been taken down by a new owner in the 1960s. During the 1960s the farmer of Down Hall Farm, adjacent to Down Hall, was permitted too store sacks of corn on the ground floor of the building. The house was recently sold at auction in Gainsborough for £190,000 but was in very poor condition.
