sword with wide quillons, one with remaining terminal has quatrefoil piercing, very short hilt, the wheel pommel has probably been forced onto the broken end, the blade has a fuller running along its length, the fuller is inlaid with brass wire in the form of 3 maltese crosses on one side and 2 maltese crosses flanking 3 'N' with 2 lozenges on the other

Commentary: A fourteenth century iron sword found in the river Witham in 1787-8 with a number of other medieval swords, presented to the museum by Mrs. L. Harding. On the blade is a gilt inlay design.
