Burgh le Marsh Mill (Dobson’s Mill)

The Left-handed mill with 5 sails - An introduction to this unique mill.

A tower mill built in 1813 by Oxley of Alford and ‘Left-Handed’ because the mill’s five sails rotate in a clockwise direction as you are looking at the front of the building.  It is known locally as Dobson’s Mill because Edwin Dobson ran the mill until 1964.  Lincolnshire County Council took the mill on in 1974 and ten years later it was back up and working again.  And it still is – thanks to a band of loyal volunteers.
