The Witham Shield: A Spotlight Loan from the British Museum

13th March - 9th June 2013

The Witham Shield, found in the River Witham at Washingborough in 1826, is a masterpiece of British Iron Age art. The shield is returning to Lincoln for a brief visit in this British Museum Spotlight Loan exhibition, which will explore the history, manufacture, design and craftsmanship of this icon of prehistoric Lincolnshire.

Lincs to the Past is a site that contains hundreds of thousands of records covering items held in Lincolnshire’s Historic Environment Record, Archives, Libraries, Museums and Tennyson Research Centre.

Its search engine provides a single place from which to search through the catalogues of the cultural heritage collections held across Lincolnshire.

This is an ongoing project, and additional entries and images will be added regularly.
