1-63. Churchwardens' accounts:
These comprise bills and receipts of the churchwardens, some accounts listing the bills and receipts received in a financial year and some statements of receipts and disbursements.
The documents have been left in the original bundles, or, where possible, reconstituted bundles (guided by original numbers, fold marks and handwriting). The covering dates refer to the financial year when the bills were presented/receipts given, which is Easter to Easter. Work may have been carried out or items purchased some months before payment was made. It will be found therefore that these dates fall before the covering dates given for a bundle.
Some bills/receipts appear to have been removed from the bundles some time before being received at Lincolnshire Archives, since some originally numbered documents were found to be missing. When they exist the original numbers have been noted in the list, but documents have been assigned reference numbers in accordance with the bundle as found. Therefore unnumbered items have been included in the references.
The bills and receipts include payments for such things as repairs to and cleaning of the church and churchyard, sacrament wine, bread, candles, prayer books, bell-ringers, parish clerks' salaries and churchwardens' expenses. Occasionally bills and receipts have been described in particular detail in the list.
