Biographical Notes:Arthur was born on 18 December 1919, the son of Cecil Henry and Betty Holmes. His father was a joiner, residing at East View, Navenby. Arthur was educated at Doncaster Grammar School., and then attended King's School Grantham from 24 April 1934 - 25 July 1937. After finishing school Arthur worked as a Post Office clerk.
