Biographical Notes:Pte Robert H. Hunsley, 5th Lincolns, son of Mr and Mrs Hunsley, 6 Parkinson Avenue, Scunthorpe, is the latest Scunthorpe lad to give his life for King and country. In a letter to the bereaved parents, his chaplain, the Rev, C. E. Matthews, C, F, writes "I grieve to tell you that your dear son, Robert H. Hunsley, No. 2169, 5th Lincolns, died today, Sunday, July 25th, most peacefully. He was shot through the neck. And paralysed from the shoulders downwards. He never recovered the use of his limbs. I shall lay him to rest in the cemetery here tomorrow, with military honours. If I can be of any use in any way, please write to me." Pte. Hunsley was 34 years of age and enlisted at the outbreak of the war. Hull Daily Mail, 29th July 1915, page 3.
