Market Cross, Spilsby
Reference Name MLI43623
Name:
Market Cross, Spilsby
Summary:
Scheduled Market Cross, Spilsby
Location:
SPILSBY, EAST LINDSEY, LINCOLNSHIRE
Description:
PRN 43623
Five steps, base, shaft, capital and plain cross in good repair. {3}
Cross retains base with tracery, original shaft and keep (knop?) with moulding; only cross on top itself is modern. Several stone steps below. 14th-15th century. The cross is vulnerable to lorries particularly during the summer when the market place is filled with lights, dodgem cars and so on.{1}
Five steps surmounted by stump of cross with very worn decoration on corn whole thing seems a jumble. There is a 1 metre boundary around the site that is part of the scheduling. For a full description see the revised scheduling document 22697. {6}
For the full description and the legal address of this listed building please refer to the appropriate List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest. {7}
