Description:Bronze plaque on oak attached to a tree known as Wellingtonia Memorial. Tree reduced to a 600cm dead stump, size of Plaque 400 x 600 x 60mm.

Inscription:Wellingtonia Gigantea This tree was struck by Lancaster III 442V of Bomber Command R.A.F shot down in flames by a JU188 on the night of 3/4 March 1945. The entire crew of the Lancaster perished. This crew comprised: P/O J. J. Ryan Sgt T.H. Jarman 1st/Sgt R.R. Russell F/Sgt H.J. Terry Sgt H. Birch Sgt H. Fayne Sgt W.H. Rogan

Notes:ME442 KM-V belonged to 44 Squadron which took off from Spilsby at 1842 on the 3rd to raid the Dortmund-Ems Kanal at a point near Ladbergen, Shot down c0100 on the 4th. 212 Lancasters and 10 Mosquitoes of 5 Group attacked the Ladbergen aqueduct, breached it in two places and put it completely out of action. 7 Lancasters lost
