Description:Gothic stone which slightly narrows at each side before widening at base. Initial letters 'IHS' at top centre, small decorative flower motif to each side. Inscribed, self-coloured lettering. White marble square plain vase with container immediately in front of stone.

Inscription:ALSO OF HARRY,/ THE BELOVED SON OF/ GEORGE AND EMILY MAWER/ AND BROTHER OF CHARLES,/ PRESUMED KILLED IN FRANCE/ APRIL 23RD 1917,/ AGED 22

Transcription:In/ Loving Memory of/ CHARLES MAWER,/ WHO DIED FEB 12TH 1915,/ AGED 30 YEARS./ IN THE MIDST OF LIFE/ WE ARE IN DEATH./ ALSO OF HARRY,/ THE BELOVED SON OF/ GEORGE AND EMILY MAWER/ AND BROTHER OF THE ABOVE,/ PRESUMED KILLED IN FRANCE/ APRIL 23RD 1917,/ AGED 22 YEARS./ HE SLEEPS NOT IN HIS NATIVE LAND/ BUT BENEATH A FOREIGN SKY, AND/ FAR FROM THOSE THAT LOVE HIM/ BENEATH A HERO'S GRAVE HE LIES

Notes on Condition:Charles was a labourer at the cement works and died of double pneumonia. He was not a war casualty. Refers to Private Harry Mawer 201820. 4th Bn, East Yorkshire Regt.
