Addressed to King Henry II and to all archbishops, bishops, abbots, earls etc.
William de Roumara, nephew and heir of William the earl (said to be grandson of William de Raimare, earl of Lincoln, in G.E.C.), to God and St. Mary and the monks of St. Laurence.
Property:
1) the abbey founded by William the earl and all the territory of Revesbi, Thoresbi and Scithesbi, with the church.
2) The church and all lands they have in Hagnaby.
3) 28 acres of land with common of pasture in Mithinggesbi.
4) The land called Legeshaga in Marum.
5) 100 acres of land next the wood and the marsh near their land and on the other side of the wood 4 acres, besides part of the wood which the monks have rooted up, with common in Kirkby.
6) The hermitage of Acche, with common in Scibeceia.
7) Haiholm and Westferiwra, with the adjacent meadow in the lord's demesne (? in Sibsey) with licence to build houses in the marsh wherever they chose.
8) William the earl's demesne land and the common in Sticheneia and licence to build as in 7.
9) A mansio called Seghedik with the crofts they have made there, in the marsh of Halton and common pasture of the whole marsh.
Witnesses: Robert the dean of Bullingbroc, Robert the priest of Marum, William de Tillol, Roger de Baeningwrd, Mathew his brother, Roger de Tillol, Rabod the dapifer, Gilbert de Bolonia, David de Totingtuna, Richard de Dun, Robert de Rum', Richard the clerk of Marun, Alan Smerhorn, Thomas the clerk, son of Herbert the deacon, Roger the clerk of Ver, Hugh the clerk of Radebi, Roger son of Richard.
Made in the year 1172, 31st March at the abbey of St. Laurence in the cloister of the conversi, in the time of Hugh then abbot.
Seal, red wax on leather tag. Equestrian. Sigillum Willel' -- Are.
The seal is wrapped in paper, no watermark but perhaps 19c. in date.
Endorsements:
1) late 12th century (?) Confirmacio Willelmi de Rumare de omnibus terris quas de feodo suo tenenus .X. duplex.
2) 13th century Carta Willelmi de Rom' de donacione Willelmi aui sui.
3) 15th century (?) added to end of 1, et warenna dupplicatum.
4) Late 16th century or early 17th century. Inc. a dede frome William Romarr' (Hand of Cuthbert Brereton?).
