Biographical Notes:Harry was born in Brigg in 1893. His father William was an Oil Miller and Harry was one of fifteen children although only 10 children had survived at the time of his enlistment.. In 1911 at the age of 17 he was listed as an Errand Boy, and on enlistment in Lincoln on 7 Sep 1914 he gave his trade as a signal fitters labourer. His unit landed at Boulogne on 10 Sept 1915 and his division (21st) was sent into action at the Battle of Loos on the Eastern Edge of Bois Hugo near Loos on 26th September, whereupon it suffered over 3,800 casualties for very little gain. Harry was registered as missing on 1st October and as having died "On or since 26 Sep 15. Death Presumed". In the Register of Soldiers Effects £3 18s 11d was returned to his mother Mary on 16 Nov 1916 and a War Gratuity of £3 10s was distributed on 13 Sep 1919. Medals: Victory; British; 15 Star
