Biographical Notes:Enlisted Lincoln. 'Last week. Mr. and Mrs. S. Maltby received an official notification that their youngest son had made the supreme sacrifice, having been killed in action on the 16th ult. Pte. Fred Maltby was one of the youngest of the Rauceby soldiers, joining up last May, and was 18 years of age. Six weeks since, he spent his last furlough at home, and shortly after proceeded to France, being transferred from the North Staffs to the Norfolk Regiment. His brother, Trooper Chas Maltby, is on the Eastern Front, where he has been for a considerable time.' Grantham Journal, 9 November, 1918
