Biographical Notes:Charles Toyn was born in Snarford in 1895, the son of Luke and Elizabeth Toyn. At the age of 16 he was working as a horseman for Barker Neave, a farmer at Hackthorn, Lincolnshire. 'Memorial Service for the late Pte. Chas, Toyne (sic), whose home was in the parish when he enlisted, took place in the parish church on Sunday evening. Lincolnshire Chronicle - Welton - 11 September TOYN - In loving memory of Pte, Charles Toyn, of Snarford, 6th Lincolnshire Regiment, who was killed in action at Sulva Bay, August 7th 1915. - verse - From his mother, father brothers and sisters.'
