Description:
An old water-course with a field system on its eastern margin lies on the eastern boundary of area. Three droves runs east by south east to west by north west across the area. Remainder of area is occupied by rectangular and irregular enclosures. Surface pottery 2nd-4th century AD suggests main settlement was in north-east corner of site. Scheduled area measures east-west 3,950 feet x 1,530 feet n-s. {1}{2}{3}
Roman settlement. Line of large ditched enclosures seen as cropmarks in 1952. Fieldwalking in 1952 produced 2nd century to early 4th century pottery. Under crop in 1965. {5}{6}
Drainage work in field to the north-west of site in 1972 failed to produce any material. {4}
In 1985 fenland survey identified three distinct sites at TF1575 2788, TF1583 2794 and TF1575 2797, each less than 0.25 ha, each 2.0-3.0 m od. Together they comprise 'Fenland in Roman Times' site 1527. {7}{8}
