SITE OF THE FORMER ST JAMES'S CHURCH. THE MEDIEVAL CHURCH WAS BURNT DOWN DURING THE CIVIL WAR BY PARLIAMENTARIAN SOLDIERS. NOTHING NOW SURVIVES OF THE ORIGINAL CHURCH. {1}
THE CHURCH WAS BURNT DOWN DURING THE SIEGE OF BELVOIR CASTLE. SOME FRAGMENTS OF THE TOWER REMAIN. {2}
A LARGE IRREGULAR AND OVERGROWN MASS OF MASONRY NOT IDENTIFIABLE AS A TOWER MARKS THE SITE OF THIS CHURCH. THE ADJACENT GRAVEYARD IS NOW DISUSED. {3}
PART OF THE SITE WAS DESCHEDULED IN 1983. {4}
This church site may be that recorded in Domesday Book under Woolsthorpe. {6}
