Lincolnshire Asylums: The Treatment of Mental Health Issues

Case Books for the Lawn Hospital, Lincoln, and St John’s Hospital, Bracebridge Heath (formerly the Lincolnshire County Lunatic Asylum) are now available to view on Lincs to the Past.

However, please note that volumes containing information less than 100 years old are not being displayed in accordance with the usual closure period for medical records.

To accompany the Case Books, this exhibition explores aspects of the history of mental health treatment in Lincolnshire.

The original microfilming of the Case Books, and subsequent digitisation from the films, was carried out with the aid of generous grants from the Wellcome Trust’s Research Resources for Medical grants scheme. We would also like to acknowledge the support of our activities by the Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, which is the successor body to both hospitals and delivers mental health services in the county.
