10. The Lincoln Plesiosaur
This is a superbly surviving example of a magnificent marine reptile that lived in the seas covering Lincolnshire around 180 million years ago, in the Jurassic period.
Plesiosaurs typically had a long neck, a broad body, four flippers and a short tail. The plesiosaur used its paddles to propel itself through the water. The plesiosaur would have eaten fish and other marine life, and used its long neck to snap at prey with extreme manoeuvrability.
This plesiosaur was killed by a much larger marine reptile, and it had been attacked several times before. Teeth marks can be seen on the bones, evidence of these attacks.
